Eski Kahta

Eski Kahta is a small village high in the hills; there’s also a modern, much larger Kahta down on the plain.

There’s a huge castle named Yeni Kale (“New Castle”) overlooking the village. They’re not joking: at my previous visit in 1983, large parts of the castle were not there. It is, shall we say, a very enthusiastic restoration. To be fair, many castles in Western Europe have been similarly rebuilt, and here they seem to have done a great job: it certainly looks less artificial than, say, Carcassonne. As of 2021, they haven’t yet finished so you can’t visit the interior.
