Hierapolis and Pamukkale

Pamukkale is one of the most famous sites in Turkey, with its extraordinary hot pools formed by aeons of calcium deposits. You used to be able to walk around the pools and bathe in them, but no longer as it was feared to be damaging them. There is a most beautiful (but rather touristic and crowded) hot swimming pool with ancient remains in it. Moreover, the ancient site of Hierapolis sits just above Pamukkale and includes a large and well-preserved theatre with spectacular views.
