Hasankeyf

Hasankeyf was a historic town, mainly famous for the remains of a huge bridge across the Tigris: only its massive piers remained, the spans having collapsed centuries ago. Nowadays the entire town is submerged by the waters of a modern dam. A few structures were dismantled and re-assembled higher up, where they now stand forlornly among the modern concrete of the new town.

But in addition one structure, the Zeynel Bey Türbesi, was transported whole - in a remarkable feat of engineering - and now sits in splendid isolation at its new site. Zeynel bey died in 1473 and the türbe is assumed to date from that time. You would imagine it had been transported from Samarkand.
